Religious Education: The Curriculum
We believe that R.E. embraces both your child’s life and the life of the school. Through our R.E. programme we provide daily opportunities for your child to explore through different mediums, for example: scripture, worship, singing, art, poetry and music. These are all ways of enhancing our Christian community.
Our school policy aims to foster the religious growth and development of children during their time with us. This is achieved through a partnership with home and parish. This aim is reflected in our Mission Statement.
- Branch 1: Creation and Covenant
Children explore the wonder of God’s creation, the gifts of our world, and the initial promises and covenants made between God and His people. - Branch 2: Prophecy and Promise
Focuses on the expectant waiting of Advent, the voices of the Old Testament prophets, and the ultimate fulfilment of God's promise through the birth of Jesus at Christmas.
- Branch 3: Galilee to Jerusalem
An exploration of Jesus’ earthly ministry, His parables, His miracles, and the deep lessons He taught His disciples during His journey toward Jerusalem. - Branch 4: Desert to Garden
Aligning with the season of Lent and Easter, this branch reflects on Jesus’ sacrifice in the desert, His Passion, and the joy of the Resurrection.
- Branch 5: To the Ends of the Earth
Children study the early Church, the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the Ascension, and our universal call to carry the Gospel message into the wider world. - Branch 6: Dialogue and Encounter
Focuses on how Catholic social teaching guides our relationships. Children learn to engage in meaningful dialogue with other faiths, cultures, and the global community.
- Hear: Engaging deeply with Sacred Scripture.
- Believe: Developing a foundational knowledge of Catholic doctrine.
- Celebrate: Understanding liturgy, prayer, sacraments, and ritual.
- Live: Applying Christian moral values to everyday choices.
- Dialogue: Reflecting on the relationship between faith and contemporary life.
- Encounter: Discovering and respecting other world faiths.
Through this programme, children are given opportunities to develop a deep understanding of their Catholic faith and to explore how faith guides the way we live and treat others. We also teach about other faiths and religious traditions, helping our pupils to develop respect, understanding and appreciation for the diverse world in which we live.

Since September 2021 St Mary and St Michael Primary School adopted the programme, Life to the Full, by Ten Ten Resources. Ten Ten is an award-winning Catholic educational organisation that is well-respected and very experienced in this field of work.
Furthermore, Ten Ten have entered into a partnership with the Catholic Education Service and the Department for Education to provide training for teachers in Catholic schools on the subject of the new statutory curriculum. Therefore, we are confident that this programme is a very good fit for our school.
Through their programme, Ten Ten understand the foundational role that parents and carers have in educating and nurturing their children on these matters. Within the programme, they have built in resources which will not only keep you informed about what is being taught in school, but will also give you the opportunity to engage your children in discussion, activity and prayer.
Ten Ten also provide an Online Parent Portal which is a tool parents and carers can use throughout the year to keep you informed and updated about the work we are doing in school.
